Reform indeed
Boston Globe - Letters
June 6, 2004
AS GOVERNOR Romney announced a new pool of Republican candidates, his pledge for "reform" rang hollow ("Romney's new Republicans," editorial, May 27). Last June the governor killed one of the most meaningful reforms in decades by failing to veto the repeal of the voter-approved Clean Elections Law. This reform has been a proven success in states such as Arizona and Maine, where more candidates of color and women are running and winning and there is increased voter turnout because of the competitive races. Let's restore full public funding of campaigns and allow even more candidates, especially those who do not have access to wealthy donors, to run for office.
