Past Events
January 26,
2006 is our Invest In Democracy Day
On this date supporters across the
Commonwealth held house meetings to watch a
video about public financing and educate
their friends and neighbors about Mass
Voters for Fair Elections. Why January 26? It marks the 99th
anniversary of the first real piece of campaign finance legislation in this
country: the Tillman Act, which banned corporate contributions to federal
campaigns.

November 2005 in Lexington
October 2005 in Northampton
Mass Voters members gathered in Northampton on Wednesday, October 19, to discuss strategies for success, and met with representatives of two upcoming ballot initiatives, the Fair Districts campaign (for an independent redistricting commission) and the Ballot Freedom
campaign (for cross endorsement/fusion voting). The discussion about the inside-the-building aspect of the Mass Voters strategy started with the good news that our allies in the Legislature are meeting with a wider group of colleagues early in November. They are using the draft matching-funds proposal as a starting point in order to craft a bill that can win broad support. The key feature of the outside-the-building component (building an action-focused, membership-based organization) met with unanimous approval. Tim Carpenter from Progressive Democrats of America recommended using congressional districts as organizing units.
